GAMA
International Canada to Offer Additional Category
of Membership Dues
OAKVILLE,
ON – August 9, 2004 -- GAMA
International Canada is pleased to announce it has
created a new tier of individual membership.
In
addition to regular or “Full” memberships
currently offered, the new membership category of
“Associate Member” will cater to second
line managers and functional specialists. New Associate
members will pay a reduced rate of $199 annually for
their membership for the first two years, a significant
savings over the Full annual membership rate of $360.
“This
is something that the industry has been asking about
for a while,” notes Michael Gau, 2004-05 President,
GAMA International Canada. “Ongoing management
development is essential at all levels. By inviting
this additional level of membership to join at a very
attractive rate, we’re confident that we will
be able to attract newer managers who may never have
been exposed to GAMA’s valuable professional
development and networking opportunities.”
As an added
incentive, those who join GAMA from August to the
end of December 2004 will see their membership stretched
through until the end of 2005, a benefit of up to
5 free months of membership.

GAMA
International Canada and Centre for Leadership Excellence,
Sobey School of Business Form Strategic Partnership
OAKVILLE,
ON – November 7, 2003 – GAMA
International Canada, a professional association dedicated
to those managing the distribution of financial services,
and the Centre for Leadership Excellence at the Sobey
School of Business, Saint Mary’s University,
are pleased to announce the formation of a strategic
partnership in providing the newly-created Chartered
Management Professional (CMP) designation.
The CMP program applies academic
and practical skill-building content in four key areas
critical to successful leadership within the financial
services industry: coaching and leadership; recruiting,
selection and retention; training and education; and
business development (including marketing, technology,
and compliance). Students enrolled in the program
will complete four academic self-study courses with
online testing as well as participate in four courses
offered from GAMA-approved educational partners in
classroom, teleconferencing, and online formats. The
capstone of the CMP program is a business planning
module that incorporates accountable goals and objectives
that each participant will be able to integrate into
his or her daily role.
Saint
Mary’s Centre for Leadership Excellence will
develop the four academic courses that form the core
of the CMP program. The Dean of the Sobey School of
Business, Dr. Alan Miciak, will also represent the
school on the GAMA Learning Institute Board of Directors,
which will oversee the CMP program.
“The
Chartered Management Professional program is the first
designation program in Canada created exclusively
for those working in leadership positions within the
financial services industry,“ notes David
Gray, CFP, CLU, CH.F.C, 2003-04 President, GAMA
International Canada. “We are thrilled to partner
with the Centre for Leadership Excellence in the creation
and development of the CMP. The expertise and knowledge
provided by its top-rated faculty will add tremendous
strength to the academic elements of the program.”
“This is a great partnership
for both the Business School and the Leadership Centre,”
says Dr. Alan Miciak, Dean of the Sobey School of
Business, Saint Mary’s University. “It
leverages our current relationships in the professional
services sector with the CAs, CMAs, and CMCs, and
GAMA members are an ideal match for the applied research
and teaching expertise of the Leadership Centre. There
is a lot we can learn from managers in the field,
and we look forward establishing the CMP credential
with GAMA Canada.”

MAFAC
Ratifies Vote to Become GAMA International Canada
TORONTO, ON – November 20, 2002 -- On November
1, 2002, members of the Managers Association of Financial
Advisors of Canada (MAFAC) voted overwhelmingly in
favour of changing the association’s name to GAMA
International Canada.
During the summer, the MAFAC Board of Directors made
the decision to bring forth the name change proposal
to the membership, after concluding that it would
be much more beneficial for the association to not
only leverage the brand identity of its affiliate,
GAMA International, but to also create a unified marketing
approach. The aligned association names should also
effectively eliminate any confusion surrounding programs
and services that members receive.
“The formal partnership that was created in early
2002 with GAMA International, our sister association
in the United States, represents an exciting new addition
to our value proposition,” notes Kevin Hunter, President
of GAMA International Canada for 2002-03. “By leveraging
the resources that GAMA International provides to
its U.S. members, yet still maintaining our unique
Canadian programs and identity, our members now gain
the opportunity to access all benefits of belonging
to both associations through their Canadian membership.”
“Most importantly, our members now have access to
a greater range of resources,” says Hunter. “By taking
a ‘back to the basics’ approach to ensuring that everything
we do provides value to the membership, we have really
made some exciting progress over the past several
months. When you take stock of all of the benefits
that GAMA International Canada members now receive,
it really is a robust offering of programs and services.
In addition, throughout 2003, we will be continuing
to develop our comprehensive professional development
program, making GAMA International Canada truly the
top choice for providing educational and networking
opportunities in financial services distribution management.”
